DIY Terrazzo Benchtop
A behind the scenes Smudge build for the grown ups.
Colour, light, and the thrill of creating something piece by piece.

Introduction
Modern Mosaics is all about colour, light and the thrill of creating something piece by piece. It invites artists to smash, sort, place, press, overlap and build. What could be better!
This theme is loosely inspired by Antoni Gaudí and the city of Barcelona. If you have ever wandered through Parc Güell or stood inside the Sagrada Familia, you will know the feeling. Tiles catching the sun. Surfaces that curve instead of sitting straight. Colours layered in a way that feels bold but completely natural. Gaudí looked to nature constantly. Shells, honeycombs, tree trunks, lizards, light through leaves. He paid attention to how things grow and move, and then translated that into architecture. His mosaics were often made from broken tiles and found fragments, arranged instinctively rather than perfectly. There is something very freeing and that's why mosaics sit so beautifully alongside process art!
