Our top priority at Smudge is making sure every child has the freedom (and the space) to have fun, create, and express themselves! We completely understand it can be tricky to narrow down a guest list, but for everyone’s comfort and the best creative experience, our parties have a maximum of 18 children.
Yes, you are very welcome to bring any nut-free snacks or food that is ready to serve and enjoy. Please be mindful of any dietary requirements for your guests. We don’t have facilities at Smudge to heat or keep food warm, so we aren’t able to heat food on the day. We do have a small bar fridge you’re welcome to use, and many families also bring an esky with ice to help keep drinks cold, especially during summer.
Yes, you can absolutely change your party theme! We just ask that you let us know at least three weeks before your party date so we have enough time to organise all the art experiences and materials.
For parties with children aged 6 and under, it’s absolutely fine if parents prefer to stay. In fact, we encourage grown-ups to get involved! For parties with most guests aged 7 and up, it’s wonderful if the birthday child’s family wants to stay and join in the fun. We do gently encourage parents of older guests to drop off their children, to help keep the creative space calm and comfortable.
Yes! Each child takes home their beautiful art creations as a keepsake, along with a Smudge party bag that includes paint, a paintbrush, stickers, and a lollipop. You’re also welcome to bring along any extra party favours if you wish.
We have a lovely courtyard space with small picnic tables that we can set out for the children if the weather is nice, along with two market umbrellas for extra shade. If the weather isn’t kind on the day, our party hosts will help you set up food inside on our long tables once the art activities have been packed away.
We don’t have a coffee machine at Smudge, but you’re very welcome to take orders from parents who are staying and pop across the road to our friendly neighbours at Sips and Stories. They’re very used to making large coffee orders for our parties and will happily help out.
Yes, absolutely. You’re very welcome to arrive 15 minutes before your party start time. That’s 10:15am for morning parties or 1:45pm for afternoon ones. It’s the perfect window to pop the cake on the table, set up your food and settle in before guests arrive.
There’s usually plenty of free street parking right out the front on Union Road, or just around the corner on Montrose Street. Another great option is the Coles Local undercover car park, with entry via Montrose Street, only a short walk from Smudge.
