Why I built The Smudge Hub…
I started Smudge Artspace because I wanted to create something different. A place where kids and adults could explore big, immersive art experiences. Where creative mess was encouraged. Where thinking, experimenting and self-expression mattered so much more than perfect outcomes.
I imagined a studio that felt alive with ideas. A place filled with recycled materials, tools to explore, and kids who were free to follow their curiosity. Somewhere families could gather, where art wasn’t just an activity but the reason we were together. A space that valued the experience of creating, not just how it looked when it was done.
Back then, I had over a decade of teaching experience, two wild creators of my own (hello Olive and Finn!), but absolutely no idea how to run a business. I just knew what I wanted Smudge to feel like. And with lots of learning, encouragement from friends and family, and lots and lots of paint… I slowly built it to what Smudge is today.
Now, with over 95,000 creatives in our community, The Smudge Hub is my way of sharing that world with you! You can borrow what works, make it your own, and create something truly meaningful in your corner of the world without having to start from scratch.

Do I need to be an artist or teacher?
Not at all! You don’t need any special background to enjoy what’s inside. You just need a bit of curiosity and a willingness to try. We’ll guide you with photos, words and simple steps so it never feels overwhelming.
How much time will it take each week?
You can dip in for twenty minutes or stretch it into a whole afternoon. Some people plan their week around the themes, others jump in whenever it suits. There’s no right way — just what works for you.
Do I need lots of fancy materials?
Nope. We give you a materials list each week, with suggestions and easy swaps. We love using what we have on hand and make space for recycled bits, sensory staples and creative freedom.

Absolutely! Everything you’ve explored lives inside your Smudge Shelf, ready to revisit anytime. It’s like your own personal library of creative goodness — packed with ideas that grow with you.
