FAQ
FAQ
How is Smudge different from other art studios?
At Smudge, we do things a little differently, and joyfully so! Our classes are grounded in process art, which means we focus on the making, not the final masterpiece. Kids are free to experiment, take creative risks, and follow their own ideas — there’s no pressure to “stay inside the lines” or replicate a perfect sample. We believe art should feel playful, meaningful, and full of discovery. That’s where the real magic (and learning!) happens.
Can adults stay during class?
These sessions are designed as drop-off classes; a lovely way for kids to build confidence and independence (and for you to enjoy an hour to yourself). That said, we completely understand some children may feel more comfortable with a grown-up nearby, especially in the early weeks. That’s absolutely okay too! We have comfy couches inside and a courtyard if you'd like some fresh air.
What should my child bring to class?
Pack a water bottle, some mess-friendly clothes, and a bag to carry home all the wonderful, paint-splattered creations. We’ve got the rest covered with smocks and all the materials they’ll need.
Can siblings come along at drop-off or pick-up?
Yes, siblings are absolutely welcome at drop-off and pick-up. We also have a lovely little courtyard space where you're welcome to stay and play with your younger ones while class is running. We just ask that they’re supervised please. Or if the weather is good, the Lorne Parade playground / reserve is just a short stroll away!
Can I use NDIS funding for the After School Creators classes at Smudge?
Families with self- or plan-managed NDIS plans often use their funding to attend our After School Creators classes. These sessions are ideal for supporting early developmental goals around creativity, regulation, fine motor coordination, sensory engagement, and social interaction. We understand that every child is different and we’re always happy to help with tailored invoicing and supportive communication with families and educators.
Do you have scooter or bike parking?
Yes, we have plenty of space inside
Where’s the best cark parking?
There’s usually plenty of free street parking right out the front on Union Road, or around the corner on Montrose Street. Another great option is the Coles Local undercover car park (entry via Montrose Street), just a short walk away.
