How is Smudge different from other art studios?
At Smudge, we do things a little differently — and joyfully so! Our classes are grounded in process art, which means we focus on the making, not the final masterpiece. Kids are free to experiment, take creative risks, and follow their own ideas — there’s no pressure to “stay inside the lines” or replicate a perfect sample. We believe art should feel playful, meaningful, and full of discovery. That’s where the real magic (and learning!) happens.
How do I book an excursion?
Because every group is unique, we like to plan each visit personally. Just get in touch with Emma and we’ll help create the perfect session for your students.
What’s the structure of the session?
Our excursions run for 1.5 hours and follow a gentle, creative rhythm. This includes a welcome and warm-up, hands-on, joyful art-making and time for sharing, reflection, and farewells. It’s relaxed, engaging, and designed around your students’ age, stage, and interests.
Do you have minimum or maximum numbers of participants?
Minimum: 10 students Maximum: 20 students
How much does it cost and what's included?
Sessions are $26 per student. All materials, tools, and art smocks are included — and we take care of all the set-up and clean-up!
Can we tailor the experience?
Yes, and we’d love to. We can align the experience with classroom themes or areas of interest — colour, storytelling, sculpture, materials, nature, even big emotions. Just let us know what you’d like to focus on and we’ll shape the session to suit.
Can our students use NDIS funding for the excursions at Smudge?
Families with self- or plan-managed NDIS plans often use their funding to attend our classes and excursions. These sessions are ideal for supporting early developmental goals around creativity, regulation, fine motor coordination, sensory engagement, and social interaction. We understand that every child is different and we’re always happy to help with tailored invoicing and supportive communication with families and educators.
What will students take home?
Each child will take home their own unique artwork or creation — often bold, layered and beautifully expressive. It’s all about the process, not perfection.
Can we combine classes or bring multiple groups?
Due to our space and staffing setup, we cap each excursion at 20 students to make sure everyone gets a rich and supported experience. If you’re looking to book multiple groups back-to-back, let us know — we may be able to arrange something special.
