See Yourself Sensory Bin

See Yourself Sensory Bin

See Yourself Sensory Bin

Play that meets them right where they are.

The Set Up

Fill a deep tub with coloured rice. At Smudge we went for warm tones; orange, yellow, pink and a touch of red. Add googly eyes, wooden people, magnetic wands, and loose parts that could transform into faces, props, or costumes.

Why it matters

Sensory play is oh so important for kids of all ages! It offers them space to regulate, reset, and make sense of their world.

Variations

Hide a mirror at the bottom for surprise reflections.

Change the rice palette; cool blues for a calm mood, fiery reds for high energy.

Add sequins, feathers, or fabric scraps so the wooden people can “dress up.”

Materials

  • Coloured rice

  • Googly eyes

  • Wooden people or peg dolls

  • Magnetic wands and chips

  • Loose parts (sequins, fabric scraps, feathers, beads)

  • A large tub or deep tray
