Frequently Asked Questions
How is Smudge different from other art studios?+
At Smudge, we do things a little differently, and joyfully so! Our classes are grounded in process art, which means we focus on the making, not the final masterpiece. Kids are free to experiment, take creative risks, and follow their own ideas. There’s no pressure to “stay inside the lines” or replicate a perfect sample. We believe art should feel playful, meaningful, and full of discovery.
My child is slightly older/younger than the age range. Can they still join?+
Get in touch; we’d love to help find the right class!
What should my child bring to class?+
Pack a water bottle, some mess-friendly clothes, a spare outfit just in case, and a bag to carry home all the wonderful, paint-splattered creations. We’ve got the rest covered with art smocks and all the materials they’ll need.
Do adults also need to book?+
No, when booking your child in for Art Play Lab a grown-up is included in the price.
Can we have more than one adult come along?+
Yes, more than one parent can attend. While we encourage just one grown-up per child to keep the space calm and comfortable for everyone, we totally understand that sometimes it’s unavoidable. Just let us know, and we’ll always do our best to accommodate.
Can I bring infant siblings along?+
Yes, infant siblings are absolutely welcome to come along!
Can I use NDIS funding for Art Play Lab?+
Families with self- or plan-managed NDIS plans often use their funding to attend our Art Play Lab classes. We’re always happy to help with tailored invoicing and supportive communication with families and educators.
Do you have pram or bike parking?+
Yes, we have plenty of space inside our Artspace.
Where’s the best car parking?+
There’s one-hour free street parking on Union Road and around the corner on Montrose Street. Since our classes run for 90 minutes, you may need to pop out and move your car halfway through. For a stress-free option, the Coles Local undercover car park (entry via Montrose Street) has two-hour free parking and is just a short walk away.
